Liposuction
The excess fatty tissue is removed with a liposuction cannula through 5mm incisions. The length of surgery is dependant on the amount of fat to be removed and the number of areas to be treated. This often involves a change of position on the operating table which can increase the overall surgical time.
Typically these patients have exhausted all diet and exercise methods of reducing their weight and are left with specific areas of stubborn fat deposit. This surgery is performed under general anesthetic and patients typically return home the same day.
After the procedure
Post-operatively, there will be bruising that will last 2 weeks and swelling which can last anywhere from 6 weeks to 3 months. Most patients return to work at 2 weeks and are asked to wear a compression garment for 4 weeks after their surgery.
Possible Complications
Possible complications include hematoma, skin irregularities, infection, and asymmetry.
